Annual Dinner & Prize Distribution 2016

The Committee has again made arrangements to hold the dinner in the Freemasons Hall, Arthur Square on Saturday 8th October 2016 the same day as the trial for the international cross country. The evening will commence at 7.00pm for 7.30pm. The meal will be a buffet at a cost of £17.00pp. Vegetarian options will be available. The Committee is hoping that there will be a large attendance and the prize winners will be there to collect their prizes. At the dinner we will be presenting the prizes for the Winter League and to the male and female athletes of the year, Cathal McLaughlin and Debbie Matchett.

B&I XC

REMINDER::  If you would like the chance to compete in the B&I XC  then you must renew your membership by 31st August.

At the AGM in May 2016, a RULE was introduced that membership must have been paid in the year previous as well. This rule will come into place from next year ie August 2017.

New members must have joined by the week previous to the trials. You have been warned.

British & Irish XC International

The British and Irish XC International is being held in Glasgow on Saturday 12th November 2016. Flights are now available to book on Easyjet at a good price. We have also booked 40 rooms at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow for the 11/12 of November. This is the main hotel for the event and the Dinner. The cost will be £130 per person sharing B&B for two nights.

Bay Road 5k

Its a 7 30pm start for the Bay Road 5k road race on Wednesday 13 April 2016. HQ is at the UU Magee Sports Centre on Rock Road, the usual venue and the normal array of Open and age group prizes are on offer. Entries taken on the night from 6pm  and post race refreshments provided at presentation.

Inter-Area Indoor Match

On 1 March 2015 an eleven strong team travelled to the Lee Valley Athletics centre London for the 2nd annual indoor track & field match against 7 other regions. A total of 26 events were covered with some great performances and some new disciplines tried and in some cases while returning from or nursing injuries. 
Anthony Glover had a decisive win in the M35 1500m while Paddy Crossan was 2nd in both 200m and 400m. Eddie McKenzie travelled for 10 hours from Scotland to compete in 3 field events.

Joan Melanophy competed in 3 track events , Shot Putt (an new event for her) and 4 x 200m relay despite just returning from illness.

Team members were Emma Smith, Joy McAleer, Joan Melanophy, Anne Maguire, Anthony Glover,  Seamus Melanophy (who bravely did the 2k Walk), Eddie McKenzie, Paddy Crossan, Derek Donaghy, Barry Morris and Darryl Coulter.

The team verdict was that it was a very enjoyable experience and gave some good markers for the season ahead.
The outdoor event will be in Solihull on 19 July 2015.

Membership Fees

At the Annual General Meeting on 14 May 2013 a resolution was passed that subscriptions are due for renewal on or before 31st August of each year. New members are always welcome. Any members wishing to be eligible for a team in the cross country international must be paid up by 31st August. New members are always welcome.

Scottish Masters' Indoor Championships 2016

At the Scottish Masters' Indoor Championship Paddy Crossan achieved a new Irish M50 200metres record and Cathan McLaughlin new Irish record in the M45 200metres.


Success at the British Masters' Open Cross Country Championships 2016

At the recent British Masters' Open Cross Country Championships in Glasgow Ruth Magill got first place and the gold medal in her age group.  A team from North Belfast Harriers got second place and the silver medal in the team event in the age group 55 - 64.  The team included Jim Newberry and Lawrence Johnston.


 

Masters Indoor Inter-area match 2014

A small Northern Ireland Masters team competed on Sunday 23 February in the Masters Inter-Area Indoor Match at Lee Valley London. Stars of the match were Denise Toner who was a decisive winner in both the W35 1500m and 3K, and Seamus McAteer who competed in 5 events.

The team members were Dave Priestley, Seamus McAteer, Kieran McKeown, Denise Toner, Anne Maguire and Robert Biggar.

 

World Masters Track & Field Championships 2013 Brazil

Pat Logan and Eddie McKenzie competed at the World Masters in Brazil along with 2 former members Fiona Argent and Averil McClelland and between them they won 5 gold,4 silver and 1 bronze medal.

Eddie was 5th in the Weight Pentathlon and 9th in the Decathlon M45.

Pat won gold in M50 100m, bronze in 200m and gold in M50 4 x 100m as part of the GB & NI team.

Congratulations to all of them in what was not always perfect conditions.

British & Irish Cross Country 2013 Cardiff

Gary Keenan and Keith Shiels each won an individual bronze medal in age M50 and M35 age groups respectively.  The ladies got bronze in the 40-44, 45-49 and 55-59 team races and the men got bronze in the 45-49 and 50-54 team races.  Excellent performances. Congratulations to all our runners.

Inter-area Indoor Match at Lee Valley 7 April 2013

A team  of 6 (aged 35 to 70) travelled to the 1st Inter-area indoor track & field match at Lee Valley on 7 April 2013 finishing 5th with a score of 47 points. Good going for such a small team with Keith Shiels winning the M35 3000m. They all had a great time enjoying some excellent competition.
